As the software is running in the Online50 datacentre you do not actually run the software on your systems, only connect to the servers where it is hosted. Consequently the requirements to be able to use this service are very low. Before using PDC Online50, you should check that your computer has the following specifications:
Recommended Requirements
One of the following operating systems:
Minimum Requirements
Other Practical Points to Note
Web Browser | The browser must support FRAMES and ActiveX components. We test against (and recommend) Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6. |
Printer | The system will allow you to print to the vast majority of printers. Your printer must use a standard Microsoft printer driver. Please note that some printers, especially the lower end ones, do not use standard Microsoft drivers and therefore will not work with this service. |
Bandwidth | You do not need broadband to be able to use the service. However, some tasks will require more bandwidth than others - this is especially true of printing where the print file (which can be large) must be downloaded to your PC. Most work only requires sending down screen updates, which are quite quick. The system can be used over a dialup link but these tend to give variable connection speeds and may also have high 'latency'. (This means that although data can travel along the connection at a certain speed, there are delays that effectively cause pauses between transmissions). Most users will require a network connection of 40,000 bps or above. |
Operating System | Currently only Microsoft Operating systems are supported. Due to Microsoft no longer supporting older products we cannot commit to supporting these systems, however the system should work over Windows for workgroups 3.1 and any 32 bit Windows platform (Windows 95 and more recent). We are working on a solution to support Macintosh users, and possibly Linux as well. If you are interested please use the contact form to let us know. |
